Clear pictures, clean sound, live

About venuemix

Who we are, how we work and what we have learned since starting out in Lincoln in 2012.

Our story

A Lincoln production company built around live work

venuemix began in Lincoln in 2012 as a small audiovisual company supporting local studios and live events. Over fourteen years the work has widened, but the focus has stayed the same: clear pictures, clean sound and productions that run to plan.

The company started with a simple observation. Studios and event organisers often had good equipment and capable people, yet the pieces did not quite fit together. Cameras, sound, lighting and scheduling were handled separately, and the gaps showed up on the day. venuemix was set up to join those parts into one considered plan.

Early projects were modest: small studio layouts, club nights, private parties and local concerts. Each one taught us how much depends on preparation. A cable run drawn on paper, a lighting plot shared a week ahead, a rehearsal that included the awkward cues. These habits have shaped how we still work.

As the company grew, the work moved into broadcast studio design, camera control and multi-camera production, alongside festival lighting and live sound. We kept the team small deliberately, so that the people who plan a job are the same people who turn up to deliver it.

Today our clients include studio managers, festival organisers, venue teams and hosts of private events. Projects range from a single evening to a multi-day festival, and from a compact streaming room to a mid-sized television studio.

We still prefer plain explanations to jargon. If a decision affects the budget, the schedule or the sound in the room, we tell you what it involves and what the alternatives are, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

What we stand for

  1. Clarity

We explain plans, costs and technical choices in plain language. Drawings, schedules and quotations are written down, so everyone knows what is included and what has been agreed.

  2. Reliability

We arrive on time, test thoroughly and keep spare equipment close for the parts most likely to fail. A show that runs quietly in the background is the result we aim for.

  3. Craft

We take care over details that audiences rarely notice: tidy cabling, well-tuned systems, smooth lighting cues and carefully set microphones. Good work shows in the finished picture and sound.

How we think

Why we plan the unglamorous parts first

Most problems at a live event or in a new studio start long before anyone presses a button. We spend a large share of any project on the parts the audience never sees, because that is where reliability comes from.

Rooms and venues first

Every space behaves differently. A glass-fronted studio sounds different from a draped one, and a marquee needs different rigging from a theatre. We begin by understanding the room, its power, its access and its limits, then choose equipment to suit it rather than the other way round. That approach avoids last-minute compromises and keeps the final plan realistic for the people running the venue.

Signal and schedule together

Signal flow and scheduling are really one subject. A beautifully routed system is no use if the crew cannot load in and test it in the time available. We draw the signal path and the timetable side by side, so each informs the other. That means camera, audio and lighting teams know when they can work, and nobody is waiting on someone else.

Handing over knowledge

For studios in particular, we want clients to be able to run their own system after we leave. We label cabling, document routing and walk the team through daily operation and simple fault-finding. For events, we leave a clear record of what was used and how it was set, which helps if you plan something similar again.
